The original Trenton Watch Factory Building was built in the early part of the 20th century when the city of Trenton was the center of watchmaking in America. In the early 1990’s, the complex was converted to residential use and an exterior courtyard was enclosed to form a new atrium. The property was acquired in 2015 and underwent renovations including upgrades to the building entrance and atrium. The front door was relocated from its original position and a new weathered-steel canopy, which is partially supported by a poured-in-place concrete wall, was added. The front facade was clad in gray fiber cement panels with a new weathered-steel canopy and a new angular, plywood ‘portal’ spans from the entrance into the renovated atrium space. Thoughtfully placed lighting directs you through the portal, opening up into a large light-filled feature lobby where tenants have room to circulate with an ample waiting area.
