This 15,000 SF renovation of the former Dining Hall and Athletic Commons accommodates new athletics training facilities, athletics office space, and a new fitness center for students. The new facility will additionally support the kinesiology program. As Penn State Brandywine shifts from a commuter-oriented to a residential campus, this expanded Athletic Commons project reinforces the new character and focus of the campus. In combination with the recently completed residence hall and Student Commons, this facility reinforces the campus as a viable and desirable path to a four-year degree in the Penn State University system, and supports the idea of the commonwealth campuses providing vibrant on-campus experiences for students. The renovations to the athletic commons are part of a campus-wide initiative to provide a high-quality academic and athletic environment on par with other campuses in the PSU system. The project also houses a new Social Science Laboratory on the upper level, where researchers partner with students in research projects with adolescent and adult populations. Also co-located with the Athletic Commons is a new headquarters for the campus police.
